0.9 fixes a lot of security bugs and many thousand general bugs, standards support and site compatibility improvements, UI bugs and crashs and improves speed.
Some highlights of the new features in 0.9:
General
- Roaming
Session roaming allows you to keep part of your user profile
(bookmarks, cookies etc.)
on a server, allowing you to switch computers and dragging your profile
around with you.
This is a special feature of Beonex Communicator. It is still experimental.
- Native looks based on GTK themes and WinXP
Browser
- Type-ahead find
Just hit the / key and enter a text
to search the text in the current page.
No need to use the menu or dialogs.
This is a huge help e.g. when looking through the result pages of Google.
Entering ' and a text will search for links only.
See also the relevant prefs dialog pane.
- Prefetching
(for sites which support it)
Pages designated by the page author, which are you likely to visit next,
will be downloaded in the background to speed up browsing
- Better Drag&Drop
- Better Page Info dialog
- View HTML source of selection
Mark a text in the page, open View | Page Source
and the relevant HTML source code will be marked as well,
considerably easing the location of specific code parts.
- DOM Inspector
Press Ctrl-Shirt-I to see the hierarchical structure
of the current page, as seen in the browser. Supplements View Source.
- Editing HTML in a browser textfield
(for sites which support it)
Allows you to easily use rich formatting like bold and lists on e.g. web-based forums
Mailnews
- Junk mail filtering
(Junk mail = spam = unsolicited mass mail)
The bayesian spam filter helps you to sort out unsolicited mass mail.
In the beginning, you have to tell it what you consider spam and
it will try to find patters. After a while, it will be able to recognize
much of that kind of spam and can automatically filter it out, saving you
from having to see that junk most of the time.
(You still have to check the Junk folder occasionally, if any valid mail got
misidentified as spam, and not all spam will be catched
- the rates are good, but don't expect wonders.)
- Filtering in newsgroups
- Applying filters to folders, not just incoming mail
- Palm sync on Windows
